Prāyaścitta for Mahāpātakas and the Sin-destroying Power of Viṣṇu-smaraṇa
यस्तु संवत्सरं ह्यतैः शयनासनभोजनैः । संवसेत्सह तं विद्यात्पतितं सर्वकर्मसु ॥ ६ ॥
yastu saṃvatsaraṃ hyataiḥ śayanāsanabhojanaiḥ | saṃvasetsaha taṃ vidyātpatitaṃ sarvakarmasu || 6 ||
しかし、そのような者と一年のあいだ同居し、寝床・座・食を共にする者は、あらゆる儀礼と義務において堕落者(パティタ)であると知れ。
Sanatkumara (teaching Narada)
Vrata: none
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: bhayanaka
It teaches that prolonged intimate association—especially sharing food, seat, and sleeping arrangements—transmits moral and ritual impurity, causing loss of adhikāra (eligibility) for dharmic acts.
By warning against corrupting companionship, it indirectly protects bhakti-sādhana: purity of conduct and company (satsaṅga) safeguards steady remembrance and worship, while harmful association undermines all practice.
It reflects dharma-śāstric application of ācāra and śauca rules that govern ritual eligibility (karma-adhikāra), especially concerning commensality (bhojana) and social contact in rites.
