Dhaumya’s Enumeration of Eastern Tīrthas
Prācī-diś Tīrtha-kathana
śaunakaḥ saha putreṇa vyāsaś ca tapatāṁ varaḥ | durvāsāś ca muniśreṣṭho jābāliś ca mahātapāḥ ||
The verse highlights the moral authority of tapas and sagehood: those established in austerity and spiritual discipline are presented as exemplary figures whose presence lends weight to counsel, judgment, and dharmic guidance.
Nārada is naming eminent ṛṣis—Śaunaka (with his son), Vyāsa, Durvāsā, and Jābāli—introducing or enumerating revered ascetics within the ongoing account in Vana Parva.
