निर्गम्य चन्द्रोदयने विगाढे रजनीमुखे । प्रस्थिता सा पृथुश्रोणी पार्थस्य भवन प्रति,संध्याको चन्द्रोदय होनेपर जब चारों ओर चाँदनी छिटक गयी, उस समय वह विशाल नितम्बोंवाली अप्सरा अपने भवनसे निकलकर अर्जुनके निवासस्थानकी ओर चली

Transliteration

nirgamya candrodayane vigāḍhe rajanīmukhe | prasthitā sā pṛthuśroṇī pārthasya bhavana prati ||

Translation

ヴァイシャンパーヤナは語った。たそがれが深まり、月が昇って四方に光を散らしたとき、あのアプサラス—豊かな腰つきで輝ける者—は自らの住まいを出て、パールタ・アルジュナの居所へと歩みを向けた。この場面は道義の重みを帯びた邂逅を描く。夜の美の帳の下、欲望が規律ある英雄に近づき、節制と正しい行いを試すのである。
