Sāvitrī’s Dialogue with Yama and the Restoration of Satyavān
sarvabhūtarutajñā tvaṁ paśya buddhyā samanvitā | kena cāśrayavān prāpto mamaiṣa bhrātṛgandhikaḥ ||
The verse highlights buddhi (discernment) as essential for judging relationships and motives: mere labels like ‘brother’ are insufficient; one must examine conduct and the sources of a person’s strength or protection (āśraya).
Mārkaṇḍeya addresses a beloved interlocutor who can understand all creatures’ speech, urging her to think: a so-called brother has appeared, and Mārkaṇḍeya asks under whose protection or patronage he has been able to come there.
