adhvani jātaśramaḥ kṣuttṛṣṇābhibhūtaś caikasmin deśe nīlaṃ gahanaṃ vanakhaṇḍam apaśyat || 5 ||
ヴァイシャンパーヤナは語った。道のりに疲れ果て、飢えと渇きに責め立てられた王は、ある地にて、濃い藍色を帯びた、ひときわ鬱蒼たる森の一画を見いだした。
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights how bodily suffering—fatigue, hunger, and thirst—can overwhelm a person, yet such trials often serve as the crucible in which perseverance and clarity of purpose are tested before the next decisive event.
During travel, the (contextual) protagonist becomes exhausted and distressed by hunger and thirst, and then notices an especially dense, dark-blue forest tract in a particular area, setting the stage for what follows in the chapter.
