Arjuna’s Address to Krishna: Agency, Action, and Immediate Counsel
asmin yuddhe bhīmasena tvayi bhāraḥ samāhitaḥ | dhūr arjunena dhāryā syāt voḍhavya itaro janaḥ ||
The verse emphasizes that in a righteous but difficult undertaking, the greatest responsibility rests on those most capable. Bhīma and Arjuna are portrayed as the principal bearers of the war’s moral and practical burden, implying leadership through strength, steadiness, and accountability for others.
Within the Udyoga Parva’s war-preparation context, the speaker assigns the main martial burden to Bhīma, with Arjuna as the co-bearer of the ‘yoke.’ It frames the coming conflict as one where the success and protection of the wider group depend heavily on these two foremost warriors.
