Udyoga-parva Adhyāya 47 — Arjuna’s Deterrent Declaration

Sañjaya’s Report

sañjaya uvāca | jānanto 'sya prakṛtiṁ keśavasya nyayojayan dasyuvadāya kṛṣṇam | sa tat karma pratiśuśrāva duṣkaram aiśvaryavān siddhiṣu vāsudevaḥ ||

Educational Q&A

Power and prowess are portrayed as dharmic when directed toward protecting others and restraining violent lawlessness. The gods choose Kṛṣṇa because his nature combines irresistible strength with compassionate intent, making him fit to undertake difficult, world-protecting action.

Sañjaya reports that the gods, recognizing Keśava’s true disposition and capability, commission Kṛṣṇa to destroy a dangerous marauder. Vāsudeva hears of the formidable task and accepts responsibility for completing it.
