Amba–Rama–Bhishma Dialogue on Vow and Refuge
भीष्म उवाच ततो मामब्रवीद् राम: प्रहसन्निव भारत । दिष्ट्या भीष्म मया सार्थ योद्धुमिच्छसि संगरे
bhīṣma uvāca | tato mām abravīd rāmaḥ prahasann iva bhārata | diṣṭyā bhīṣma mayā sārthaṃ yoddhum icchasi saṅgare ||
ビーマは語った。するとラーマ(パラシュラーマ)は、微笑むかのようにして我に言った、バラタの末裔よ。「ビーマよ、戦場にて我と戦おうと望むとは、まことに幸いなことだ。」
भीष्म उवाच
The verse highlights the warrior ethic of meeting a challenge openly and the idea that even conflict can be framed as a test of honor and destiny—Parashurama treats Bhishma’s willingness to fight as a ‘fortunate’ occasion for proving strength and resolve.
Bhishma narrates that Parashurama addresses him with a faintly smiling, confident tone, welcoming Bhishma’s intention to fight him in battle—setting the stage for their famed confrontation.
