Amba–Rama–Bhishma Dialogue on Vow and Refuge
The verse highlights that the real adversaries in war are inner faults—pride (darpa) and impulsive desire (kāma). Martial prowess is presented as ethically meaningful when it subdues these passions rather than merely defeating bodies.
Rāma is addressed directly as Bhīṣma declares himself the one capable of crushing Rāma’s war-driven pride and desire to fight. It is a formal warrior’s challenge, asserting certainty of victory and framing the coming combat as a decisive contest of honor.
