राज्ञो वृत्त-गुण-संग्रहः (Conduct and the Thirty-Six Virtues of a King) / The King’s Code of Conduct

प्रियं ब्रयादकृपण: शूर: स्यादविकत्थन: । दाता नापात्रवर्षी स्यात्‌ प्रगल्भ: स्यादनिष्ठर:

priyaṃ brūyād akṛpaṇaḥ śūraḥ syād avikatthanaḥ | dātā nāpātravārṣī syāt pragalbhaḥ syād aniṣṭhuraḥ ||

ビーシュマは言った。「高貴なる者は人を喜ばせる言葉を語り、吝嗇の狭さを離れよ。勇敢であれ、しかし誇り高ぶってはならぬ。施しに富め、されど不相応の者に贈り物を注ぎ込むな。行いにおいて自信と力量を備えよ、しかし決して苛烈にも残忍にもなるな。」
