Āśrama-dharma and Brahmacarya: Śuka’s Inquiry on Karma and Tyāga (शुक-प्रश्नः कर्मत्यागविवेकश्च)
दत्त्वा शतसहस्र तु गवां राजा प्रसेनजित् | सवत्सानां महातेजा गतो लोकाननुत्तमान्,महातेजस्वी राजा प्रसेनजितने एक लाख सवत्सा गौओंका दान करके उत्तम लोक प्राप्त किये थे
dattvā śata-sahasraṁ tu gavāṁ rājā prasena-jit | sa-vatsānāṁ mahā-tejā gato lokān anuttamān ||
ヴィヤーサは語った。――大いなる威光を備えたプラセーナジット王は、子牛を伴う牛を十万頭施した。その功徳ある布施によって、彼は最上にして比類なき世界を得た。
व्यास उवाच
That generous giving (dāna), especially go-dāna—donating cows with calves as a sustaining and compassionate gift—constitutes powerful dharma that yields great spiritual merit and leads to exalted realms.
Vyāsa cites King Prasenajit as an exemplar: by donating one hundred thousand cows along with their calves, the king gains the reward of attaining the highest worlds, illustrating the fruit of righteous charity.
