Āśrama-dharma and Brahmacarya: Śuka’s Inquiry on Karma and Tyāga (शुक-प्रश्नः कर्मत्यागविवेकश्च)
एते चान्ये च बहवो दानेन तपसैव च । महात्मानो गता: स्वर्ग शिष्टात्मानो जितेन्द्रिया:,ये तथा और भी बहुत-से शिष्ट स्वभाववाले जितेन्द्रिय महात्मा दान और तपस्यासे स्वर्गलोकमें चले गये
ete cānye ca bahavo dānena tapasāiva ca | mahātmāno gatāḥ svargaṁ śiṣṭātmāno jitendriyāḥ ||
ヴィヤーサは言った。「これらの者たち、そしてさらに多くの者たちもまた――高貴なる魂を備え、自らを制し、規律ある行いを守り、諸感官を征服した人々は、布施と苦行(タパス)によって天界に到ったのである。」
व्यास उवाच
Heavenly attainment is presented as the fruit of dharmic discipline: generosity (dāna) and austerity (tapas), supported by inner refinement (śiṣṭa-ācāra) and sense-mastery (jitendriyatā).
Vyāsa is describing the destiny of many exemplary persons, stating that they reached Svarga because their lives were marked by charity, austerity, and self-control.
