Mahabharata 9.65.65Shalya Parva, Adhyaya 65, Shloka 65

iti śrīmahābhārate śalyaparvaṇi gadāparvaṇi aśvatthāma-saināpatyābhiṣeke pañcaṣaṣṭitamo 'dhyāyaḥ |

Educational Q&A

The colophon underscores that even in war, authority is legitimized through ritual and formal acknowledgment; ethically, it invites reflection on how institutions can continue to function and confer power even when the surrounding conduct is increasingly adharma-driven.

This is the chapter-ending colophon: Sañjaya signals that the sixty-fifth chapter of the Śalya Parva (within the Gadā Parva section) has concluded, and its subject is the installation (abhiṣeka) of Aśvatthāmā as commander-in-chief.
