त्रिखर्व बलिमादाय द्वारि तिष्ठन्ति वारिता: । ब्रह्मणा वाटधानाश्न गोमन्त: शतसड्घश:
trikharva balim ādāya dvāri tiṣṭhanti vāritāḥ | brahmaṇā vāṭadhānāś ca gomantaḥ śataśaḍghaśaḥ ||
ドゥルヨーダナは言った。「三カールヴァ(kharva)に及ぶ貢納を携え、彼らは門そのものに立ちながら、制止されて入ることを許されぬ。婆羅門と富裕な家長たち—よく耕された田畑と豊かな牛群を持つ者—が百の隊伍となって集い、黄金の壺や諸々の供物を運んできたが、なお戸外に留まり、入場を得られない。」
दुर्योधन उवाच
Righteous rule (dharma) naturally draws voluntary honor, wealth, and social support; the ethical contrast is highlighted by Duryodhana’s jealousy, showing how envy distorts one’s perception of another’s deserved prosperity.
Duryodhana describes crowds of respected people—Brahmins and prosperous cattle-owning/agricultural groups—arriving with enormous tribute for Dharmarāja, yet being stopped at the gate and unable to enter, emphasizing the scale of Yudhiṣṭhira’s fame and the pressure of visitors/offerings.
