ततो5भवद् युद्धमतीव दारुणं तवाहितानां तव सैनिकै: सह । रथाश्वमातड्रविनाशनं तथा यथा सुराणामसुरै: पुराभवत्
tato ’bhavad yuddham atīva dāruṇaṃ tavāhitānāṃ tava sainikaiḥ saha | rathāśvamātaṅga-vināśanaṃ tathā yathā surāṇām asuraiḥ purābhavat ||
サンジャヤは言った。ついで、汝の敵と汝の軍勢とのあいだに、きわめて凄惨な戦が起こった。戦車も馬も象も滅び尽くす殺戮であり、そのさまは古の神々と阿修羅の戦いにも似て見えた。
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights how unchecked hostility can magnify conflict into overwhelming destruction; by likening the human battle to the devas–asuras war, it warns that when rivalry dominates, ethical restraint and proportion are easily lost.
Sanjaya reports to Dhritarashtra that a fiercely destructive engagement has erupted between the Kaurava troops and their opponents, devastating chariots, horses, and elephants, and seeming like the legendary primordial clash between gods and asuras.
