Droṇa–Sātyaki Engagement
अथात्यर्थ विसृष्टेन द्विषतामसुभोजिना । आजलेने वक्षसि द्रोणो नाराचेन धनंजयम्,तत्पश्चात् शत्रुओंके प्राण लेनेवाले एक नाराचका प्रहार करके द्रोणाचार्यने अर्जुनकी छातीमें गहरी चोट पहुँचायी
athātyartha-visṛṣṭena dviṣatām asu-bhojinā | ājalena vakṣasi droṇo nārācena dhanañjayam ||
サञ्जयは言った。ついでドローナは、敵の命の息を喰らうかのごとき「ナーラーチャ」の矢を、極限の力で放ち、ダナンジャヤ(アルジュナ)の胸を射抜いて、深く痛ましい傷を負わせた。この場面は戦の苛烈さを示す。敬われる師でさえ致命の技を用い、クシャトリヤの法(kṣatriya-dharma)の要請のもと、武人の沈着と決意を試すのである。
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights the moral strain of righteous war: even a venerable teacher like Droṇa uses deadly force when bound by allegiance and battlefield duty, showing how dharma in war can demand harsh action while testing inner steadiness and responsibility.
Sañjaya reports that Droṇa shoots Arjuna with a nārāca arrow released with great force, striking him in the chest and causing a deep wound—an escalation in the fierce duel amid the Kurukṣetra battle.
