Jayadratha-rakṣā: Conch Signals and Encirclement of Arjuna
Chapter 79
hrīmantaḥ sarvaśāstrajñā jñānatṛptā jitendriyāḥ | yāṃ gatiṃ sādhavo yānti tāṃ gatiṃ vraja putraka ||
The verse commends the ethical-spiritual ideal of the sādhus: modesty (hrī), mastery of the senses (jitendriya), and contentment grounded in wisdom (jñāna-tṛpti). It urges the listener to seek the same ‘gati’—a righteous and elevated end—through disciplined character and understanding of śāstra.
In the midst of the Drona Parva’s war narrative, Sañjaya reports an exhortation addressed affectionately as “putraka,” encouraging the addressee to adopt the virtues of the righteous and to attain the same noble destiny they reach.
