Educational Q&A

The verse affirms a kṣatriya ethical ideal: for steadfast warriors who do not retreat, death in battle is an accepted certainty, and such unwavering courage—when aligned with righteous conduct—is presented as leading to meritorious realms after death.

Sañjaya reports to Dhṛtarāṣṭra after Abhimanyu’s fall, framing the event as the inevitable outcome of heroic, non-retreating warfare and consoling the listener by asserting that Abhimanyu has attained the blessed worlds of the virtuous.
