Droṇa-parva Adhyāya 60: Arjuna’s return, auspicious omens, and mission delegation
सहसमप्रचाश्चैकैकं गजानां पृष्ठतोडन्वयु: । अश्वे अश्वे शतं गावो गवां पश्चादजाविकम्,एक-एक हाथीके पीछे हजार-हजार घोड़े जा रहे थे और एक-एक घोड़ेके साथ सौ-सौ गौएँ एवं गौओंके पीछे भेड़ और बकरियोंके झुंड चलते थे
sahasam apracāś caikaikaṃ gajānāṃ pṛṣṭhato 'nvayuḥ | aśve aśve śataṃ gāvo gavāṃ paścād ajāvikam ||
ナーラダは言った。「その行列では、象一頭の後ろに馬が千頭ずつ続き、馬一頭ごとに牛が百頭つき、牛の後ろには山羊と羊の群れが移り進んだ。」この偈は、王権と軍事の営みに伴う富と糧秣の規模の巨大さを示し、同時に、戦のさなかにあっても依る者を守り養うべき統治の重荷と倫理的責任を暗に語っている。
