Night Battle Begins; Duryodhana’s Protective Orders for Droṇa
Droṇa-parva 139
tvayā vṛddhena dhīreṇa kāryatattvārthadarśinā | na kṛtaṃ suhṛdāṃ vākyaṃ daivam atra parāyaṇam ||

Even a person capable of discerning right action can fail ethically by ignoring good counsel; when ruin follows, it is often described as destiny—yet the verse highlights the moral weight of disregarding well-wishers’ advice.
Sañjaya addresses Dhṛtarāṣṭra, pointing out that despite his age and supposed discernment, he did not accept the advice of his well-wishers; therefore the unfolding calamity of the war is being framed as driven by daiva (fate).
