Droṇa-parva Adhyāya 114 — Karṇa–Bhīmasena Missile Exchange, Disarmament, and Arjuna’s Intervention
na vimokṣyanti kaunteya yadyapi syur manojavāḥ |
The verse highlights the warrior’s confidence and the grim determinism of battle: even extraordinary speed or skill cannot guarantee safety once one is firmly targeted. Ethically, it reflects the Mahābhārata’s recurring tension between human prowess and the inescapability of consequences in war.
Sañjaya reports a combatant’s declaration to a ‘Kaunteya’ that the opponents, now marked as targets, will not be able to escape even if they are as swift as thought—underscoring the intensity of the ongoing fighting in Droṇa Parva.
