Droṇa–Dhṛṣṭadyumna-yuddha (द्रोण-धृष्टद्युम्न-युद्धम्) — Tactical duel and allied interventions
इरावानथ संक्ुद्धः श्रुतायुषमरिंदमम् । प्रत्युद्ययौ रणे यत्तो यत्तरूपं परंतप:,दूसरी ओर शत्रुओंको संताप देनेवाले यत्नशील इरावानने युद्धमें कुपित होकर शत्रुदमन श्रुतायुषपर धावा किया। श्रुतायुष भी प्रयत्नपूर्वक उनका सामना कर रहा था
irāvān atha saṁkruddhaḥ śrutāyuṣam ariṁdamam | pratyudyayau raṇe yatto yattarūpaḥ paraṁtapaḥ ||
サञ्जयは言った。するとイラーヴァーンは怒りに燃え、戦いに心を定めて、敵を屈する者シュルターユスに向かい戦場で突撃した。敵を灼くその勇士は固い決意で前進し、シュルターユスもまた正面から迎え撃とうと力を尽くした――両者は苛烈な戦の務めの中、互いに押し進んだ。
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights the kṣatriya ethos of confronting an opponent directly with resolve. It also shows how anger (krodha) fuels action in war, reminding readers that martial duty often unfolds amid intense passions, even when the larger moral order (dharma) is at stake.
Sañjaya describes a battlefield encounter: Irāvān, angered and determined, rushes to engage Śrutāyus. Śrutāyus does not retreat; he prepares and strives to meet Irāvān’s charge, setting up a direct clash between the two warriors.
