Arjuna and Bhima’s pressure; escalation toward Bhishma
eṣa cāpi naravyāpro matkṛte jīvitaṃ tyajet | eṣa naḥ samayas tāta tārayema parasparam ||
The verse highlights the dharmic ethic of loyalty and reciprocal responsibility: true allies are bound by a pledged agreement (samaya) to protect and rescue one another, even at great personal cost.
Sanjaya reports a sentiment of steadfast comradeship: he describes a warrior (identified in the accompanying Hindi as Arjuna) as willing to sacrifice his life for him, and recalls their mutual vow to save each other in times of danger.
