Śrāddha-Kalpa: Pitṛ-Pūjā and Tithi-Phala (श्राद्धकल्पः पितृपूजा च तिथिफलम्)
शास्त्रमार्गनुसारेण तद् विद्धि मनुजर्षभ । ततः सोडन््तर्हितो बाहुः पितुर्मम जनाधिप
śāstramārgānusāreṇa tad viddhi manujarṣabha | tataḥ so 'ntarhito bāhuḥ pitur mama janādhipa ||
ビーシュマは言った。「おお、人々の中の雄牛よ、我が行いはシャーストラ(śāstra)の定める道に従ったものと知れ。するとその後、王よ、我が父の腕は視界から消え失せた。」
भीष्म उवाच
Bhīṣma emphasizes that ethical action should be aligned with śāstra—one’s conduct gains legitimacy and moral clarity when it follows the prescribed dharmic path rather than personal impulse.
Bhīṣma addresses the king and explains that he acted according to scriptural injunctions; immediately after that event, he reports a striking sign: his father’s arm became invisible, indicating a sudden, extraordinary occurrence tied to the moment.
