Anuśāsana-parva 17

दान्तानामपि यो दान्तो धीमतामपि या च थी: । देवानामपि यो देव ऋषीणामपि यस्त्वृषि:

dāntānām api yo dānto dhīmatām api yā ca dhīḥ | devānām api yo deva ṛṣīṇām api yas tv ṛṣiḥ |

ヴァーユは言った。「彼は、自制する者の中にあってなお最上の自制であり、賢者の中にあってなお“知性”そのものである。神々の中にあってなお神であり、聖仙(リシ)の中にあってなお聖仙である——一切衆生の内なる自己(アートマン)にして、諸世界が彼より生じ、彼に帰して消えゆく、その量り知れぬ光威の主シヴァの千八(1008)の御名を、我より聞け。人中の最勝者よ、これをただ聞くのみで、汝のあらゆる願いは成就する。」

Educational Q&A

The verse exalts Śiva as the supreme principle: the highest discipline among the disciplined, the highest intelligence among the wise, and the supreme divinity among gods and seers. It also teaches the devotional efficacy of śravaṇa—hearing the sacred names with reverence is presented as spiritually potent and wish-fulfilling.
