त्रिवर्गे चापवर्गे च यश:श्रीरोगशान्तिषु । देवतापितृपूजासु संतोष्याश्चैव नो द्विजा:
vāyudeva uvāca | trivarge cāpavarge ca yaśaḥśrīrogaśāntiṣu | devatāpitṛpūjāsu santoṣyāś caiva no dvijāḥ ||
風神ヴāユデーヴァは言った。「人生の三目的—ダルマ(法)・アルタ(利)・カーマ(欲)—の成就のため、また解脱のため。さらに名声・繁栄・健康・病の鎮まりのため。加えて、神々と祖霊を供養する時—そのいずれの折にも、婆羅門たちを十分に満足させねばならぬ。」
वायुदेव उवाच
That the proper honoring and full satisfaction of brāhmaṇas—especially through respectful hospitality, gifts, and ritual propriety—is presented as a means to secure both worldly goals (dharma, wealth, pleasure, fame, prosperity, health) and the highest goal (mokṣa).
