When a grave wrong is corrected (the wife restored), the sage’s anger subsides and he withdraws punitive measures, emphasizing dharma as restoration rather than endless retribution; relief is extended not only to the offender but to the wider world affected by the disturbance.
Arjuna recounts that Utathya, once reunited with his wife, became pleased and lifted the water-related affliction, thereby freeing the world and Varuṇa from distress, addressing the Haihaya ruler in the course of the tale.
