स्वाध्यायनिरता विप्रास्तथा स्वस्त्ययने नृणाम् । रक्षणे क्षत्रियं प्राहुर्वैंश्यं पुष्टयर्थमेव च
svādhyāyaniratā viprās tathā svastyayane nṛṇām | rakṣaṇe kṣatriyaṃ prāhur vaiśyaṃ puṣṭyartham eva ca ||
ビーシュマは言った。「ブラーフマナはヴェーダのスヴァーディヤーヤ（自習・誦習）に励み、人々に吉祥をもたらす儀礼と実践に携わる。クシャトリヤは守護に専心すると説かれる。ヴァイシュヤは共同体を養い支えるためにこそ在る。」
