शूद्रस्य कर्मनिष्ठायां विकर्मस्थोडपि पच्यते । ब्राह्मण: क्षत्रियो वैश्यो विकर्मस्थश्न पच्यते

śūdrasya karmanisṭhāyāṁ vikarmastho ’pi pacyate | brāhmaṇaḥ kṣatriyo vaiśyo vikarmasthaś ca na pacyate ||

ビーシュマは言った。「シュードラであっても、自らに定められた務めに堅く立ちながら、もしヴィカルマ(禁ぜられた行い)に入れば罰を受ける。だがブラーフマナ、クシャトリヤ、ヴァイシュヤがヴィカルマに住する場合、それはシュードラの類の仕事に関わったというだけで地獄にて『煮られる』のではない。決するのは、自らのダルマを守るか、禁を犯してヴィカルマへ越えるかである。」
