करोति कर्म यद् वैश्यस्तद् गत्वा हुपजीवति । कृषिगोरक्ष्यवाणिज्यमकुत्सा वैश्यकर्मणि
karoti karma yad vaiśyas tad gatvā hy upajīvati | kṛṣigorakṣyavāṇijyam akutsā vaiśyakarmaṇi ||
ビーシュマは言った。「ヴァイシュヤがなすいかなる仕事も、人々はその営みに依って生を立てる。農耕、牛の保護と飼養、そして交易—これらはヴァイシュヤの正しい務めである。ゆえに自らの生業を卑しめたり恥じたりしてはならぬ。」
