भरद्वाजसखा चासीत्‌ पृषतो नाम पार्थिव: । तस्यापि द्रुपदो नाम तदा समभवत्‌ सुत:,उन दिनों पृषत नामसे प्रसिद्ध एक भूपाल महर्षि भरद्वाजके मित्र थे। उन्हें भी उसी समय एक पुत्र हुआ, जिसका नाम द्रुपद था

bharadvājasakhā cāsīt pṛṣato nāma pārthivaḥ | tasyāpi drupado nāma tadā samabhavat sutaḥ ||

ヴァイシャンパーヤナは語った。「バールァドヴァージャ仙の友である、プリシャタ(Pṛṣata)という王がいた。その同じ頃、彼にもまた一子が生まれ、のちにドルパダ(Drupada)と呼ばれるようになった。語りはドルパダの誕生を、王統とバラモンの系譜を結ぶ友情の網の中に置き、義務と名誉、そして受け継がれる縁によって形づくられる後日の同盟と確執を予兆する。」
