adṛśyantīṃ mahābhāgāṃ rakṣa vatsa mahāmate arundhatīṃ ca pitaraṃ vasiṣṭhaṃ mama sarvadā
Suta Goswami (narrating an internal plea within the Vasiṣṭha–Arundhatī narrative)
It frames Shiva as the ultimate refuge (Pati) whose protection is sought for dharmic households and rishi-lineages—an attitude central to Linga-centered surrender and seeking śaraṇāgati at the Linga.
Though Shiva is not named, the theology implied is Shaiva Siddhanta’s: the pashu, facing danger and uncertainty (“unseen”), turns for safeguarding to the supreme Protector—Pati—who alone can loosen pasha and preserve dharma.
The key practice is protective invocation and surrender—seeking divine guardianship for family and gurus—aligned with Pāśupata devotion where reliance on the Lord’s grace accompanies discipline.
