Vānaprastha-vidhi and Sannyāsa-dharma: Austerity, Detachment, and the Paramahaṁsa Ideal
iti sva-dharma-nirṇikta- sattvo nirjñāta-mad-gatiḥ jñāna-vijñāna-sampanno na cirāt samupaiti mām
This verse teaches that sincere performance of one’s prescribed duty purifies the heart, and when joined with knowledge and realized wisdom, it quickly leads one to attain Śrī Kṛṣṇa.
Kṛṣṇa was instructing Uddhava on the path of spiritual completion—showing how purified duty (svadharma), clear understanding of the Lord as the ultimate goal, and realized knowledge culminate in direct attainment of Him.
Do your responsibilities ethically and as an offering (purifying the mind), study true spiritual teachings (jñāna), and apply them through steady practice and transformation of habits (vijñāna) so life steadily turns toward God.
