Chapter 255: दायविभागकथनम्
On the Division of Inheritance
अन्योदर्यस्तु संसृष्टी नान्योदर्यधनं हरेत् असंसृष्त्यपि चादद्यात्सोदर्यो नान्यमानृजः
anyodaryastu saṃsṛṣṭī nānyodaryadhanaṃ haret asaṃsṛṣtyapi cādadyātsodaryo nānyamānṛjaḥ
異母兄弟(anyodarya)が共同財産関係(saṃsṛṣṭi)にあっても、他の異母兄弟の財を取ってはならない。だが同母の実兄弟は、そのような共同がなくとも受け取り得て、他人として扱われるべきではない。

Concept: Degrees of familial unity affect entitlement: full brotherhood carries stronger default claims; half-brotherhood requires stricter constraints to prevent injustice.
Application: In disputes, first classify relationship (same mother vs different mother) and estate status (joint vs separate), then apply the corresponding prohibition/permission.

Related Themes: Agni Purana 255 (definitions of saṃsṛṣṭi and sibling categories in the inheritance section)
It imparts vyavahāra-vidyā (juridical knowledge): a technical rule distinguishing property entitlements of anyodarya (uterine brother) versus sodarya (full brother), especially under saṃsṛṣṭi (joint estate).
It shows the Agni Purana functioning as a dharma and governance manual, preserving practical legal doctrine on inheritance and household property—alongside its ritual, cosmological, and other technical subjects.
By restraining wrongful appropriation among co-heirs and defining rightful entitlement, it supports dharma (right order) in the family; adherence reduces conflict and the karmic burden associated with unjust taking.
