Related Themes: Agni Purana 231 (crow omens and warfare nimittas)
It teaches shakuna-vidyā (omenology): a crow alighting and cawing on the left side within an army encampment—especially when visibly agitated—is read as a sign of imminent, difficult danger.
Alongside theology and ritual, the Agni Purana preserves practical statecraft: battlefield and camp-level decision aids using nimitta (portents), integrating folk-ornithological signs into Rajadharma and military planning.
Recognizing adverse nimittas is framed as prudent dharmic governance—preventing harm to subjects and soldiers—by prompting caution, restraint, and remedial action rather than reckless engagement.
