FAQs

This verse imparts name-knowledge (nāma-jñāna) by enumerating Gandharvas and related celestial figures, useful for Purāṇic cosmology, recitation, and identification in ritual/liturgical contexts.

By cataloging specific classes of divine beings (Gandharvas) and their principal names, it functions like a reference index within the Purāṇa—preserving mythic taxonomy alongside other subjects (ritual, polity, medicine, poetics).

Remembering and reciting sacred names is traditionally regarded as purifying and merit-producing (puṇya), strengthening devotion and cosmological awareness by aligning the mind with divine orders of beings.
