Lomaśa’s Counsel and the Resolve for Pilgrimage
ṛṣayo yatra devāś ca mahābhāgā mahaujasaḥ | prāpya nityaṃ namasyanti devaṃ nārāyaṇaṃ prabhum ||
Dhaumya said: “In that place, the blessed and mighty sages and the gods, having reached it, bow every day to Lord Nārāyaṇa, the supreme Master. Where the eternal Supreme Self, Bhagavān Nārāyaṇa, abides—there the whole world is, and there are all sacred fords and all shrines.”
The verse teaches that the highest object of reverence is Bhagavān Nārāyaṇa: even gods and sages continually bow to him. It also conveys a unifying sacred vision—where the Supreme dwells, all holy places and sanctuaries are implicitly present—encouraging devotion grounded in dharma rather than mere external pilgrimage.
Dhaumya describes a supremely sacred locus associated with Nārāyaṇa. He explains that great sages and the gods regularly go there and offer daily homage to the Lord, emphasizing the place’s sanctity and Nārāyaṇa’s supreme status.
