Vaiśampāyana said: There, the revered Jāmadagnya (Paraśurāma) recounted the lineage in due manner; and, having beheld Viśvāmitra’s extraordinary, more-than-human splendor at that sacrifice, he described the fame befitting his ancestry—highlighting how spiritual power and earned renown are to be recognized when they arise from disciplined striving.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse underscores that true renown is not merely inherited but must be acknowledged in proportion to demonstrated excellence—here, extraordinary spiritual power (vibhūti) gained through discipline and effort is recognized and narrated in a way that aligns fame with merit and dharmic achievement.
Vaiśampāyana reports that at a particular sacrifice, Paraśurāma (Jāmadagnya) witnessed Viśvāmitra’s superhuman splendor and, in response, recounted the relevant genealogy and spoke of the fame appropriate to that lineage—framing Viśvāmitra’s stature within ancestral and ethical context.
