Vaiśampāyana said: 'By me, that tiger among men—Jiṣṇu (Arjuna), whose prowess is true and unfailing—has been sent into exile. The mighty-armed, great-souled hero was banished for the sake of obtaining celestial weapons.'
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse frames exile not merely as punishment but as purposeful discipline: a difficult separation is accepted to gain higher capability (divine weapons) for a righteous objective, showing how hardship can be aligned with dharma when guided by intent and restraint.
Vaiśampāyana reports that Arjuna—praised as victorious and mighty—has been sent away into exile specifically to obtain powerful weapons, indicating a strategic and spiritual preparation phase within the forest narrative.
