Bṛhadaśva said: “After I had been granted leave by the king, someone spoke to me in private: ‘There is a man in Ṛtuparṇa’s service, known by the name Bāhuka.’”

The verse highlights discretion and responsible speech: sensitive matters are conveyed privately, suggesting an ethical norm of confidentiality and careful communication in royal and personal affairs.
As Bṛhadaśva departs with the king’s permission, an unnamed person approaches him in seclusion and informs him about a man named Bāhuka who serves Ṛtuparṇa, setting up further developments involving identity and service at Ṛtuparṇa’s court.
