Sudeva Identifies Damayantī in Cedi (सुदेवेन दमयन्ती-परिचयः)
आश्वासयन्ती भर्तारमहमप्यगमं वनम् | स कदाचिद् वने वीर: कस्मिंश्वित् कारणान्तरे,“और उसीमें अपना सब कुछ हारकर वे अकेले ही वनकी ओर चल दिये। एक वस्त्र धारण किये उन्मत्त और विह्नल हुए अपने वीर स्वामीको सान्त्वना देती हुई मैं भी उनके साथ वनमें चली आयी। एक दिनकी बात है, मेरे वीर स्वामी किसी कारणवश वनमें गये
āśvāsayantī bhartāram aham apy agamaṁ vanam | sa kadācid vane vīraḥ kasmiṁś cit kāraṇāntare |
Bṛhadaśva said: “While consoling my husband, I too went to the forest. Once, my heroic lord, for some particular reason, went into the forest.”
बृहदश्चव उवाच
The verse highlights steadfast companionship and compassionate duty within marriage: the wife does not abandon her husband in distress but supports him and shares his hardship, embodying loyalty and care as a form of dharma.
The speaker narrates that she accompanied her husband into the forest while consoling him; later, on one occasion, the husband went into the forest for some particular reason, setting up the next event in the story.
