Sudeva Identifies Damayantī in Cedi (सुदेवेन दमयन्ती-परिचयः)
निहतोष्टाश्वबहुला: पदातिजनसंकुला: । भयादाधावमानाश्ष् परस्परहतास्तदा,उनके बहुत-से ऊँट और घोड़े मारे गये और उस समुदायमें बहुत-से पैदल लोग भी थे। वे सब लोग उस समय भयसे चारों ओर भागते हुए एक-दूसरेसे टकराकर चोट खा जाते थे। घोर आर्तनाद करते हुए सभी लोग धरतीपर गिरने लगे। कुछ लोग बड़े वेगसे वृक्षोंपर चढ़ते हुए नीचेकी विषम भूमियोंपर गिर पड़ते थे
bṛhadaśva uvāca | nihatāṣṭāśvabahulāḥ padātijanasaṅkulāḥ | bhayād ādhāvamānāś ca parasparahatās tadā |
Bṛhadaśva said: Many camels and horses were slain, and the host was crowded with foot-soldiers. Stricken by fear, they fled in all directions; in the crush they struck one another and were wounded, and thus, in that panic, they fell as if slain by each other. The scene portrays how terror and disorder, once unleashed, make people instruments of harm to their own side, turning a rout into self-destruction.
