वैशग्पायन उवाच ततस्तामशिवां श्र॒ुत्वा वाचं स परुषाक्षराम्‌

vaiśaṃpāyana uvāca | tatastām aśivāṃ śrutvā vācaṃ sa paruṣākṣarām |

Vaiśaṃpāyana said: Then, upon hearing those inauspicious words—harsh in their very syllables—he responded in the wake of that ominous utterance. The passage underscores how speech, when cruel and ill-omened, can itself become a moral and narrative turning-point, provoking fear, anger, or a decisive change of course.
