Kuntī said: “So be it, O god. Let my union with you take place exactly as you have declared. And may the son born from my womb be endowed with your own valor and potency, your beauty and noble nature, your steadfastness and vigor—and may he be firmly established in dharma.”

Educational Q&A

Even when seeking extraordinary power or divine favor, the highest aspiration is that such gifts be governed by dharma—strength, beauty, and energy are praised only when joined to righteousness and noble character.

In the account of Kuntī’s encounter with the Sun-god, she assents to the union on the terms stated by Sūrya and prays that the child born from it will resemble the deity in heroic qualities while remaining firmly dharma-aligned.
