Kuntī said: “O Sūrya, dispeller of all darkness—if I were to have a son by you, let him be a heroic warrior, adorned with earrings and armor, mighty-armed and exceedingly strong.”
सूर्य उवाच
The verse highlights the traditional ideal of a divinely endowed kṣatriya: strength, courage, and protective equipment symbolizing readiness to uphold duty. It also reflects the ethical weight of seeking boons—desires should be framed toward dharmic capability rather than mere power.
Kuntī addresses Sūrya with reverence and states her wish: if she is to have a son through him, he should be born a great hero, naturally adorned with earrings and armor—traits that foreshadow the extraordinary warrior later known for these marks.
