Karna said: “O divine one, as for what you have told me concerning the Pandava Phalguna (Arjuna)—the warning that I should fear him—let there be no sorrow or anguish in your mind on my account. O Sun-god, I will surely defeat in battle that Arjuna, whose prowess is like that of Kartavīrya Arjuna.”
The verse highlights a warrior’s resolve and self-reliance: even when warned by a divine well-wisher, Karna refuses to yield to fear and asserts his determination to meet destiny through personal effort and valor.
Karna addresses the Sun-god (his divine father/patron) after receiving a caution about Arjuna’s danger. He reassures the deity not to grieve for him and declares that he will defeat Arjuna in battle, likening Arjuna’s might to that of the legendary Kartavīrya Arjuna.
