Yakṣa-saṃvāda: Yudhiṣṭhira’s Interrogation at the Guarded Water

When her father had departed, she (Sāvitrī) set aside all her ornaments. Choosing the austere life she had embraced, she took up only bark-garments and wore only ochre clothing—an outward sign of inner resolve, self-restraint, and fidelity to dharma in her chosen marriage.

Educational Q&A

True commitment to dharma is shown not merely by words but by disciplined conduct: Sāvitrī voluntarily relinquishes luxury and adopts ascetic simplicity, expressing inner resolve, restraint, and steadfast fidelity to her chosen path.

After her father leaves, Sāvitrī removes her jewelry and changes into bark-garments and ochre clothing, marking her transition from royal comfort to the austere forest life associated with her marriage and its duties.
