Nārada said: “Whether he be long-lived or short-lived, whether endowed with virtues or even devoid of them—once I have chosen him as my husband, I will not choose a second.” In the Savitrī–Satyavān episode, this declares an unwavering, dharma-grounded fidelity: a marriage-choice, once made in truth, is not to be revoked for fear, advantage, or changing circumstance.
Steadfastness in a righteous choice: once a spouse is chosen with sincerity, one should not abandon that commitment due to fear of fate (short life) or shifting judgments about merit (virtue or lack thereof).
In the Savitrī–Satyavān story within Vana Parva, Nārada reports/voices Savitrī’s firm declaration that she has chosen Satyavān once as her husband and will not choose another, regardless of his lifespan or qualities.
