nārada uvāca | vivasvān iva tejasvī bṛhaspati-samo matau | mahendra iva vīraś ca vasudhā iva samanvitaḥ ||
Narada said: “That prince is radiant like the Sun, wise in counsel like Bṛhaspati, heroic like Mahendra (Indra), and endowed with forbearance like the Earth.”
नारद उवाच
The verse presents a model of ideal rulership: brilliance (tejas), sound counsel (mati), valor (vīrya), and earth-like forbearance (kṣamā). Ethical kingship requires not only power and heroism but also wisdom and patient restraint.
Nārada is describing a certain prince by comparing his qualities to divine and cosmic exemplars—Sun, Bṛhaspati, Indra, and Earth—thereby establishing the prince’s exceptional fitness for leadership and moral stature.
