Mārkaṇḍeya said: “O Yudhiṣṭhira, as the monkey forces began to enter the camp, bands of Piśācas and vile Rākṣasas from within Rāvaṇa’s army—Parvaṇa, Patana, Jambha, Khara, Krodhavaśa, Hari, Praruja, Aruja, Praghasa, and others—rushed forward and launched a sudden assault upon them.”
मार्कण्डेय उवाच
The verse underscores how adharma often manifests as sudden, collective aggression led by morally degraded forces; it frames conflict as not merely physical but ethical—where base impulses and hostile natures rally to obstruct righteous aims.
Mārkaṇḍeya narrates that when the vānara troops enter the camp, multiple bands of Piśācas and low Rākṣasas serving in Rāvaṇa’s army—named one by one—charge in and attack the incoming forces.
